What are the dates of the program?
The 2015-2016 Boston Food Justice YAV program will begin with a YAV orientation in NY from August 24-30, 2015. The YAVs will then have a weeklong orientation in Boston from August 31st-September 7th. They will start work at their placements on Tuesday, September 8th. They will finish work at their placements on July 31, 2016.
How are YAV’s selected?
Young adults apply for their year of volunteer service through the national office of the PC(U.S.A.) church. They can apply for sites throughout the United States and/or internationally. The PC(U.S.A) National YAV office together with the site coordinators for each site guide each applicant through a discernment process to assess which YAV site is best for the applicant. When the Boston site accepts an application the site coordinator and advisory board then place each YAV at a local host site for their YAV year.
How can I contribute to the YAV program?
This incredible program would not be possible without the support of people who believe in our mission and vision. You can support us in any or all of the following ways:
1. Pray for our program and participants:
Pray for honesty, intentionality, and growth in wisdom and maturity as the congregations, organizations, and individuals involved in this program work together to live out the teachings of Jesus in a world of inequality, and develop a theology of food.
2. Contribute your time:
We are always looking for spiritual directors, mentors, individuals with specialty food skills, and community organizers to participate in the educational process with our YAVs.
3. Support us financially:
Contribute individually or as a congregation and invest in the leaders of tomorrow!
